How do you change a ABS sensor on a 1987 Ford Bronco?

How do you change a ABS sensor on a 1987 Ford Bronco? I am having problems with the Rear anti lock break light coming on, on my dash, I was told that changeing the ABS sensor would fix that. Where and how do I replace that part.

If it isn’t on the rear end, you will see 2 wires going to it, then it is on the transmission tail shaft housing.

there’s one for each side of the wheel,,there located near the brake drum on it,,it bolts on near the brake drum of the vehicle,,to remove it just unbolt it,and un hook the wire from it and then remove it,,installation is the reverse of this,,take the battery cable off it for a minute or two,,and it will erase the trouble code on it for you,if it comes back on there is another problem,,good luck i own a repair shop,,and do this for a living,,i hope this help,s.

What should I know about the Bronco II?

my uncle has offered me his Bronco II for $1000 bucks, it has some problems, but he said that anything that needed fixing would be paid from that $1000. it has 186, 000 miles on it and it was maintained my a mechanic for most of its life. Is this a good deal? Anything i should know about Bronco II?

  • I was a Ford factory rep for 7 years and personally owned 2 Bronco IIs. They were a good little truck and I liked them.    The truck had two significant problems. Roll over being the big one. The truck sat to high, was to narrow and had a short wheelbase. If you buy it, take it easy with high speed turns. Good advice with any SUV, but this one in particular.  The other is was with the transfer cases on the 4×4 models.  For $1,000 and he is willing to put that $1,000 into repairs, sounds like a pretty good deal.
  • DO NOT BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!… Simply go to your local book store and purchase a copy of Consumer Reports Guide to New and Used Cars and Trucks. In it, you will find your vehicle and the pages of factory recalls, poor reliability issues, fire hazzards, bad transmission reliability, etc etc etc……. all recalls listed will be shown in full detail in this fine publication. It will cost you MORE than $1000 just keeping it on the road over the not so long run. Why does he want to give this vehicle to you? Does he hate you or something? Isn’t he aware of the saftey issues associated with the bronco 2???? Do some research. You will see, it would be a very big mistake buying this, even if it looks shiney and new. Run- run away- far far far far far far far far away. And ask him “What did I ever do soo wrong to you to even think of offering this bronco to me- at ANY price?!?”

Ford Bronco:I have a 78 Bronco. Is the brake light on the dash suppose to illuminate with the park brake on?

I have a 78 Bronco. Is the brake light on the dash suppose to illuminate with the park brake on?

I have gone through the park brake system and have not found any wires or switches that would trigger the light. It is being failed on safety inspection for this reason and I have to prove it doesn’t have it or fix it if it is suppose to.

  • the idiot light doesnt come on in my freinds 74, i just asked him. he has a sticker, in MA. You must be in CA, poor guy. I think the guy at the inspection is uninformed, and a stickler. I presume you have to go back there for a re-test or pay another shop, which may be your best option. Other than that, bring in a manual for the truck and show him the ebrake section, and wiring diagram, which will proove your case. Or you can try to research when the law requiring ebrakes to put the brake light on went into effect. I have owned 3 78-82 jeep trucks, and none of them had this, nor did my 78 Chevy p/u. You most likely just got a bad inspector or something. But hey, good luck on having a working e-brake, especially if its an automatic, they are easy to overlook and a pain in the *** to fix!
  • Most if not all vehicles are meant to have a brake light come on to remind you that the e brake is on.I think you have a problem with the person testing you.It is easy to get around this problem.The back of your instrument panel is very easy to access by reaching up from the bottom while laying on your back on the floorboard.If you touch the back of the area where your brake light is on your dash you will feel a small rectangular piece of plastic.You will find one of these behind every lighted part on your instrument cluster.These are bulb holders.Twist the one behind your brake light and the bulb and holder will pop out.If needed you can put it back in just twist it the opposite way that you took it out.Good luck.
  • Yes it should have a light. Look in a manual to find where it is. It should be linked to the handle under the dash

id be pretty happy with almost any bronco. but im mostly looking for either a blue, or red one that is in pretty good condition and doesnt need to be fixed up to much.

  • i first had a red and tan EB Bronco with a 302 but sold it and got a nice 94 EB Bronco with a 351w and i just put a 6inch lift and 35 bfg its always turning peoples heads  msg me if you need any help with your bronco

1994 Ford Bronco – needs new clockspring? Horn, cruise control quit and airbag light blinking – hard to fix?

My horn and cruise control quit working the same time the airbag light starting blinking. The horn works every once in awhile. After I called the dealership, they thought it was probably the clockspring, but would have to look at it. Well, I cant afford to take it in and my b/f is a mechanic – could he replace the clockspring? How hard is it and how much does the clockspring cost? Has anyone else come across this with their 90’s model Bronco or Ford truck? I’ve heard that this could potentially cause the airbag NOT to deploy or to deploy under regular driving conditions! So, it would be nice if that could NOT happen! Would love to have my cruise control and horn back also. Please tell me what I should do!

If you’re cruise control buttons are on your steering wheel, I’ll bet you just have a poor ground between the steering wheel and column. Remove the steering wheel cover and check for a broken or loose ground wire. Be sure to disconnect the battery before starting so you don’t chance deploying the airbag.

  • Reduce your idle speed.

ADDED:
Changing timing will do nothing. There is NO spark with engine switched off.

Dieseling is caused by self ignition of the fuel/air in the cylinder.(NOT SPARK)

  • There’s a little solenoid on the carburetor that shuts the throttle down when you turn the key off to prevent dieseling on those things.

They go bad a lot.

  • Don E is right on the money.

But first, check your thermostat. you may be overheating and not know it! That can easily cause dieseling.

Any problems with vapor locking or flooding?

I’m considering fixing a 76′ Ford Bronco, what will the major costs be and is there a good book to help me out

I have completed many projects before such as installing a new bathroom, electrical projects, etc. so I am pretty handy with tools and can follow instructions well. I have never actually worked extensively on vehicle however, so I am just curious what are the most important things to look for and what might need replacing that would make the project not worthwhile.

  • when looking at these trucks check the body out well they are known for rusting out in the front floor pan, rocker panels, rear quarter panels and tailgate. also check under sides of doors if the drain holes are plugged up the bottom of the door rot from the inside. mechanically i can’t think of any problems specific to these vehicles. if you do decide to buy one get a factory service manual not the one you get from the part store but the one that was used by a ford dealership. these can be found on eBay and are not cheap if in good condition but is worth having as it will cover most of the info needed with a project like this  good luck.

  • It dose not matter what the needle reads when your keys is off.

It matters only when the key is on.
I drive a 91′ f-150 , my needle sets various different places when the key is turned off.
As long as it reads full when full , half when half, and empty when low with the key on, it is working properly.

  • sounds like a bad fuel sender unit(part of the fuel pump asm) in tank you’ll have to access connector at fuel tank(you’ll need a schematic and check the circuit to the gauge).  may have a float partially filled with fuel.or bad instrument panel.
  • You have to take the gas tank down (make sure it is almost empty). There are two straps to be loosened and unhooked. The sending element is under a circular plate that is held in place with a jam ring. The new sending element will come with a new cover, gasket and jam ring.

Fix my 89 ford bronco?

i have a 89 ford bronco that “should” have a 5.0 302 engine the problem is i need a new distributor and i have bought 5 and i cant find the right one..none of them fit. The ones (distributor) i bought the shaft at the bottom is round and when i looked in the block,the hole is like a half moon shape its hard to explain but i need to know what year or other engine had this type of distributor shaft. Just in case your wondering the old one was not in it when i bought it.If any one can help that would be great but no one i know can, not even the auto parts store.

  • 302 High Out put motor, might be 1988 or1989 Mustang or something similar. You must tell the parts store that it is a High Output motor or you won’t get the right part.
  • The engine might be a 351 W.

Check the bottom of the dist. and see if the oil pump shaft hole is the same size

  • what your problem is a broken oil pump. the half moon shape you see is one half of the oil pump shaft. You will have to remove the oil pan and the oil pump and you will see what I am talking about.

Does it have a carb? I had a 84 & the choke kept sticking on it. Otherwise, I’d guess you’ve got some vaccum lines that have dry rotted and need to be replaced. But no matter what, don’t buy a chevy.
